Nels Johnson joined Thorn Run Partners’ Oregon practice in 2014 and brings expertise and experience in working with state and local governments. Mr. Johnson has represented a wide variety of clients, from non-profits to large corporations on a diverse range of issues, focusing on matters related to business, energy, housing and civil rights.
Legislative and political landscapes are filled with unforeseen twists and turns that organizations seeking to achieve their government relations objectives must navigate. Mr. Johnson brings a diverse range of legal, political and legislative experiences that he can draw upon to provide strategic government relations advice and achieve tangible results for his clients.
Prior to joining Thorn Run Partners, Mr. Johnson founded a successful law practice focused on delivering high quality legal service for business and individual clients. He has also worked for several federal, state, and local candidates – providing strategic political and policy advice to candidates and their campaigns.
Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Whitworth University, a Juris Doctor from Willamette University, and studied leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He was recently elected to one of the at-large positions for the Multnomah Education Service District in Multnomah County, Oregon. He also serves as an adjunct professor, teaching courses on law, government and leadership at Warner Pacific College. Mr. Johnson and his wife Lauren live in northeast Portland with their Goldendoodle, Lincoln.
