Thorn Run Partners (TRP) announced today the addition of lobbyist Stuart Chapman as Partner. A veteran legislative and public affairs strategist with over 15 years of policymaking experience as a senior congressional aide in both the Senate and House of Representatives, Stuart maintains a deep reservoir of strong relationships with lawmakers, staff, and stakeholders.
“We have long been friends with Stuart and have admired his tradecraft and reputation for years,” stated TRP’s founding Democratic partner Andrew Rosenberg, “and with his considerable expertise in both policymaking and press, Stuart will make a superb fit for our growing team.”
Before moving to Washington, Stuart served as a reporter and news editor for a number of Mid-South publications, both in the Mississippi Delta and the Memphis area. He also freelanced for a number of specialty publications, including agriculture, entertainment, and travel and leisure magazines.
In 2002, Mr. Chapman parlayed his reporting career into a press secretary position for Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA). This was followed by a three-year stint as press secretary for long-serving Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV).
After several years for Senator Rockefeller, Stuart returned to the House side, where he served as Chief of Staff for former Congressman Zack Space (D-OH). While there, Stuart oversaw all aspects of the Congressman’s operations, including his technology, energy, and health care work on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. More recently, Mr. Chapman served as Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), where he supervised the Congresswoman’s work on the Education and Workforce Committee and the Financial Services Committee. During the 112th Congress, Mr. Chapman was honored with selection to the bi-cameral, bi-partisan Stennis Fellows Program.
Stuart joins TRP from the American Continental Group, where he was a partner in the firm’s government affairs practice.
Mr. Chapman earned a B.A. from Rhodes College, an M.A. from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. from Boston University, where he wrote an award-winning biography of famed author and historian Shelby Foote. He is married to Bridget Walsh — and is the proud father of twins, Genevieve and Ben.
