Thorn Run Partners (TRP) announced today the addition of lobbyist, Nels Johnson, as Senior Vice Present.  Nels, who joins the firm’s burgeoning Oregon practice, most recently founded a successful law practice focused on providing expert legal advice for immigration and business matters.

“I am incredibly enthusiastic about the addition of Nels to our Thorn Run Partners team in Oregon,” stated TRP’s Dan Bates, who opened the Portland office of Thorn Run Partners in April 2010, “His savvy, smarts and experience will bring tremendous value to our state and local clients.”

Nels brings with him a diverse background that includes extensive experience in law and government.  He has worked on campaigns at the state, local and federal levels.  Prior to establishing his own practice, Nels clerked for the Marion County District Attorney’s Office, prosecuting misdemeanors and low-level felonies and later founded a successful law practice.  He has also lobbied for a diverse set of clients, from non-profits to large corporations, focusing on issues related to business, energy, housing and civil rights.

Nels holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Whitworth University, a Juris Doctor from Willamette University, and studied leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.  He was recently elected to one of the at-large positions for the Multnomah Education Service District in Multnomah County, Oregon.  He also serves as an adjunct professor, teaching courses on law, government and leadership at Warner Pacific College.  Nels and his wife currently live Lauren live in northeast Portland with their Goldendoodle, Lincoln.
