Today on the Hill: House Managers Resume Opening Arguments
January 23, 2020House impeachment managers will take to the Senate floor again today to resume their opening arguments in the trial of President Donald Trump. Under the rules adopted earlier this week, House managers and White House lawyers will have 24 hours each — divided over the course of three days — to present their arguments, followed by up to 16 hours of questioning by Senators. The first day of arguments from the House impeachment managers is in the books, and with up to two days left for their arguments, the trial process is expected to extend into next week. Once opening arguments and Senators’ questions have concluded, the Senate is expected to weigh seeking additional evidence and witness testimony.
In the House, lawmakers have adjourned for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day district work period. The lower chamber will resume legislative business on Monday, Jan. 27.
