Today on the Hill: Senate Eyes Swift Passage of Coronavirus Funding Package
March 5, 2020Congress is moving swiftly on a supplemental appropriations package that seeks to address the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. House lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the $7.8 billion package yesterday afternoon after the bill’s release was delayed over issues pertaining to vaccine pricing, telehealth coverage, and hospital reimbursement. The Senate is expected to quickly follow suit and pass the funding bill prior to the end of the week.
On the floor, House lawmakers will resume close out their work week with final passage of a bill that seeks to boost worker rights and provide Title 5 status for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees. Despite some bipartisan support for the bill, it is expected to be dead-on-arrival in the upper chamber after the Trump administration issued a veto threat earlier this week. Meanwhile, Senators will resume their work on the bipartisan energy package.
