Today on the Hill: Senators Close Out Impeachment Trial

February 5, 2020

Senators are set to reach a final verdict on two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. Following two days of closing arguments and Senate speeches, the upper chamber will vote on acquittal of the president later this afternoon. President Trump is expected to be cleared on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress on a party-line vote.

In the House, lawmakers have queued up 19 suspension bills out of the Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) and Oversight and Reform (COR) Committees. This includes two T&I measures that would reauthorize programs under the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (FWPCA) — the Chesapeake Bay Program and the National Estuary Program — as well as a third bill that would create a FWPCA grant program to support the restoration of the San Francisco Bay. The lower chamber will also consider legislation that seeks to develop an online database that shows how tax money is spent by the federal government.
