Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant

Agency: FEMA

Description: The purpose of this program is to help increase or maintain the number of trained firefighters to help communities to provide adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards, and to fulfill traditional missions of fire departments.

Funding Available: $350 million is available. The grant will award an expected 300 projects and requires a match.

Eligibility: State, local, tribal and territorial fire departments and organizations that represent the interests of firefighters.

Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program

Agency: Bureau of Justice Assistance

Description: The purpose of this program is to provide financial and technical assistance to states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized Indian tribal governments to enhance the operations of drug courts or to implement new veterans treatment courts. The program assists courts integrate evidence-based substance abuse treatment, random drug testing, equitable sanctions and incentives, and transitional services in judicially-supervised court settings with jurisdiction over offenders to reduce recidivism, substance abuse, and prevent overdoses.

Funding Available: The grant will award an expected 96 projects. Individual grants will be funded up to $750,000 and requires a match.

Eligibility: States and territories; states and local courts; Indian Tribal governments

Juvenile Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program 

Agency: Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

Description: The purpose of this program is to improve responses and outcomes for youth with mental illness (MI) or co-occurring MI and substance abuse (CMISA) who come into contact with the juvenile justice system. This program supports public safety efforts through partnerships with juvenile justice, mental health and substance abuse agencies to enhance responses to justice-involved youth with MI and CMISA.

Funding Available: $5 million is available. The grant will award a maximum 6 projects. Individual grants will be funded up to $750,000 and requires a match.

Enhancing Community Responses to America’s Addiction Crisis: Serving Our Youngest Crime Victims

Agency: Office for Victims of Crime

Description: The purpose of this program is to provide funding to support (1) direct services to children and youth who are crime victims as a result of the Nation’s addiction crisis; and (2) training and technical assistance for the direct services grantees.

Funding Available: $19 million is available. The grant will award a maximum 25 projects. Individual grants will be funded up to $700,000 and does not require a match.

Eligibility: States and territories; units of local government; Indian Tribal governments; Non- and for-profit organizations; and institutions of higher education

Body-Worn Camera (BWC) Policy and Implementation Program to Support Law Enforcement Agencies

Agency: Bureau of Justice Assistance

Description: The purpose of this program is to fund the purchase of body-worn cameras that are implemented as part of comprehensive BWC programs. Funding can be used to support pilot BWC programs, establish new BWC implementations, or expand existing programs.

Funding Available: $9 million is available. The grant will award projects based on the BWC funding cap. Individual grants will be funded up to $200,000 and does not require a match.
